This design creates awareness for Seaside Weavers, our up-cycling business that gives retired fishing line new life. We reclaim rope from the traps used to catch Dungeness crab. Yearly, fishermen replace old line from their crab pots. Much of the used line ends up in the landfill. We repurpose the rope by handweaving it into durable and beautiful doormats (aka MerMats) and Sea Baskets. We have made connections with crab fishermen and women in harbors from San Francisco to Oregon. Many of them call us to haul away their rope trash, saving them time and money and leaving them feeling positive about having a recycling option for their rope disposal.
